In fact, according to Slicktext, smartphone owners unlock their phones 150 times a day. That is a pretty big number unless you are someone who operates their livelihood through their phone.

As we use our phones day in and day out, we run into the chances of draining our smartphone's battery even before we get home at the end of the day.

So, if you are an office goer or someone who needs to go on a long trip, you need to keep in mind some tips and tricks to lengthen the lifespan of your smartphone.

9-Surefire-Ways-to-Save-Battery-Power

Keep in mind,

  • You won't be getting extended power of 6 or 7 hours by using these tricks but surely get that much-needed 20 minutes when it’s needed the most.

  • Different smartphones have different placement of features. Do a Google search

Now let's expand on each of the points:

1. Turning on Dark Mode

One of the biggest battery drainers is the screen, especially if you use your smartphone with full brightness on 100%.

At the end of the day, the screen has pixels that fire colors at you and help you see and understand what is written on the smartphone.

Especially if you have an AMOLED screen, you can save more battery as in an AMOLED type of screen, the pixels actually shut off to show perfect black and also this saves battery power.

To access dark mode on Android: Go To Settings > Display > Theme.

2. Turning on Battery Saver

Battery saver normally kicks in when there is less than 15% of the charge left in the battery. This usually limits the background activity of the phone and also reduces the ability of the smartphone to take on heavy tasks.

Now, if you know you don’t need your smartphone for any heavy lifting such as playing games or editing video/photo, consider manually turning on the battery saver on your smartphone.

To turn on battery saver on Android:  Settings > Battery > Battery Saver

3. Adjusting Brightness

If you are staying inside the house for longer periods, you can always turn off the auto-brightness feature.

When it's on, the phone actually uses its ambient light sensor to calculate the amount of light falling on the phone, and in this process burns up battery energy. The more work the phone has to do, the faster the battery dies.

So if you turn off the auto brightness feature, you can save energy that is spent by the sensor to measure the brightness of the environment.

To turn off the auto brightness feature on Android: Settings > Display > Adaptive brightness.

4. Screen Timeout

If your phone is sitting idle with its screen lit up, it's wasting energy for nothing. If you are someone who uses the phone once and knows that you won't be using your phone for the near hour or moment, consider reducing the screen timeout to ½ minutes.

There is no need for the phone to go to sleep after 30 minutes.

This can save you valuable energy.

To reduce the screen timeout on Android: Settings > Display > Screen Timeout.

5. Turn on Connectivity(Not All)

If you are not using your Bluetooth connection(for wireless speakers or anything that requires Bluetooth), consider turning it off as they can help you save battery.

And according to Google, use Wi-Fi more than mobile data to save battery.

Turn off location services, if not required or you need to go outside at the moment.

To turn off location on Android: Settings > Location > Turn off Toggle.

6. Uninstall Unused Apps

Your phone is already trying its best to keep you happy, trying to fast-load every application you click, and every task you want it to perform.

You want everything to be on the tip of your fingers, in the process you download hundreds of apps and use them once in a while.

Uninstall those apps.

Go through the app drawer and see how many apps are present that haven't been used for a long time and can be uninstalled without thinking.

Install them again when needed.

7. Take Care of Your Battery

The applications and the software of the phone can do so far in saving battery, But you also need to take care of the battery.

Some of the things that you can do to save battery can be:

  • Don't expose your smartphone to bright sunlight

  • Also in freezing low temperatures.

  • Don't use the smartphone when it’s charging

Batteries give out charge by performing chemical reactions that when complete give out energy. Now when batteries are exposed to high/low temperatures, the chemicals inside the phone usually destabilize and can cause other reactions or even stop the process.

So, always keep those pocket supercomputers at room temperature for maximum possible longevity.

8. Lowering Refresh Rate

Refresh Rate for a screen is the number of times your smartphone’s screen has to refresh itself to show new content that would come up to the screen.

The higher the refresh rate, the more fluid and smooth the animations look.

Now, the problem with refresh rates in the context of battery optimization is, that the more time the screen has to update itself to allow more content to show on the screen, the more the battery has to charge the screen and deploy charge to the screen.

The refresh rate can be normally changed under the display tab of the settings app.

9. Using Black Wallpaper

Most of the time, the home screen of your phone gets the most screen time.

Why not use it as a way to save power?

Using black wallpapers can help you save some power. Black wallpapers don’t need pixels to be brightly lit to show information.

Talking of wallpapers, don't use live wallpapers, any kind of animation is performed by the processors, and live wallpapers, though look good for you, are taking a huge toll on the processor as well as the battery.

Those are the tips that can save your battery and also reduce your anxiety about returning home with a dead phone.

You can also carry a power bank in case you need hours of extra juice for your smartphone.
