Samsung Galaxy Ring: Top Things To Know - Tech Edu Space
The Samsung Galaxy Ring (2024) is the first-generation ring that is launched for people using Samsung who would be interested in tracking basic fitness numbers such as blood oxygen, skin temperature, heart rate, sleep, and other activities.

It is a
comfortable, concave shape ring that comes with a beautiful transparent case
that can hold a 1.5-cycle charge of the ring.
But it’s
not made to replace the smartwatch.
Design
The Samsung
Galaxy Ring is a concave-shaped ring that is minimalist looking. That means it
would be hard for someone to differentiate the Ring from other rings at a
distance.
It comes in
3 colors: Titanium Black, Titanium Gold, and Titanium Silver. In my opinion, the black color
ring looks the coolest.
Reviews
from the internet suggest that the Ring is comfortable to wear and one
reviewer from CNET said “so comfortable that I keep forgetting it's on my
finger”
Although YouTube tech reviewer MKBHD expressed
concern about using the Ring while working out and playing outside, sometimes
being uncomfortable to wear, especially while lifting weights and activities
that require gripping.
Hardware
Samsung
recommended wearing the Ring on the index finger for optimized tracking and a better experience.
The battery
of the Ring is impressive, boasting over 6 to 7 days of battery life. So week-long battery life.
The Ring has sensors like an accelerometer, optical bio-signal sensor, and skin temperature sensor.
Lastly, the
Ring is water-resistant up to 330ft therefore water and sweat would not affect
its functioning.
Software
Samsung is
clearly targeting a large portion of the audience who are using the Samsung
phone.
Not only does the Ring work best connected with Samsung smartphones (Android 11 and up) but
also doesn’t work with an iOS phone. Samsung is really pushing the Samsung
Ecosystem here it seems.
The Ring can
automatically detect running or walking but lacks other auto-detecting
abilities. It can be expected to be added in later iterations of the Ring.
If lost,
there is a Find My Ring feature in the app which gives an approximate location
of the Ring and can light up the LEDs inside the Ring to help you find it.
And of
course, there is AI stuff made for the Ring, the Samsung Health app gives AI-recommended health tips based on Energy Score. The Energy Score is a score
that gives a rating based on sleep tracking as well as other activities.
Also, Samsung
has provided limited additional features such as double pinching to open the
camera app as well as dismiss an alarm.
Charging
The
transparent charging case is praised by other tech reviewers as being beautiful
to look at and also at the same time helpful.
When the
charge of the case goes below 15%, a red LED flashes to show that the charge is
low. The case supports USB-C connectivity.
Price
The price
of the Samsung Galaxy Ring is $400 or £399. It seems on the higher side, but unlike
other smart ring rivals, it doesn’t require a subscription to work. So that’s a
good point.
Who is it for?
If you are
someone who uses Android, especially a Samsung phone, and want a no-distraction,
screenless interaction for tracking your fitness goals (instead of repeatedly
looking at a smartwatch), go for the Ring.
